Topic: What to do for printer?

Looking at getting into 3D printing. I'm trying to decide what I should buy. Budget is $400 TOPS, no more. I am able to build a kit if necessary.
Which of these would be the best to buy? Mind you, an 8" print surface is essential.

-No name Prusa i3 kit
-Folger Prusa i3 Reprap kit
-Makerfarm Pegasus kit
-No name Prusa Aurora i3 Reprap kit
-Folger 2020 Prusa i3 Reprap
-Da vinci 1.0

Feel free to add in any others, as long as it's under $400.

If it were me, I would go for the Pegasus. I haven't heard of any major negative feedback from Makerfarm and the couple of times I gave them my business I was a happy camper.

Da Vinci can be a blessing and a curse as you can tell by scrolling through the Da Vinci section of this forum. If you find yourself in a jam and are forced to make modifications, you will want an open source design.
Folger. Well, check out this nightmare http://www.soliforum.com/topic/11325/fo … pic-heavy/
Beware of generic models. Some faceless companies take pride in what they do, but it is usually a tactic to give out crap products and make it impossible to track reps down for support, complaints, or refunds.

My 2 cents

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

I'm really enjoying my Monoprice Maker Select. $350 shipped, 8" bed.

Have you had any issues with your Maker Select?

Is the Maker Farm higher quality or betting in any way? I'm fine with a kit but not having to build something would be nice.

Re: What to do for printer?

Nothing to speak of really. The extruder temperature bounces around a bit but it certainly doesn't affect prints. Easiest out of the box printer I've used, and I've used about a half dozen different brands.

Interesting! I'll try to make a decision between that and the Pegasus.
