Topic: da Vinci 1.0 Pro loading failure *FIXED*

Well earlier in the week I had some problems with the Pro where I could no longer load filament. The first time the guide tubing pulled out inside the hot end the second time the guide tube flat out kinked. I landed up fabricating a replacement tube out of copper that guides the filament inside the hot end. No more problems.

There's pictures showing what happened and what I did to permanently fix it here "da Vinci 1.0 Pro Feed Mod" in case anyone finds themselves in the same boat.

very awesome wright up.. I had problems last night with mine pushing the tube out but I had a good amount of build up in the nozzle...

dose anyone know how to fix the loud clicking from the filament load wheels?

I'm going to have to try the Feed Mod, i've got it zipped tied to the hilt to keep it from popping out.
as far as the knocking or clicking, it's really annoying. I get it mostly when it's printing the test strip, but does happen just about anywhere on the print bed. when it gets to bad I just help it a bit by helping the filament into the feeder. I get it with or without the XYZcartridge, there doesn't seem to be any tension from the back side of the feed, I guess it just has a hard time pushing filament in sometimes.

I have the PRO, and have not yet experienced the clicking, nor a clog.  I do have/had other printers so I'll drop some insight as to whats going on.  Since they moved to a Bowden style extruder, there are a lot of things to consider now.  This system pushes the filament thru a length of pfte tubing to the destination, the head.  The downside of this is that the tube system cannot take a lot of back pressure from the filament.  If the head is clogged, or not hot enough to melt the filament at the right speed, the extruder will push the filament, causing the pressure to build up and making the pfte tube pop out of it fittings.  This can also reach a saturation point where the filament pressure is at max and cannot move forward any more, thus the grooves on the extruder cams will start to pop off the filament, which makes the clicking sound.

This is actually two different problems; one is the print head being clogged, the other is the tube slipping out.  The mod the OP made will only solve the tube issue; not a head clog or blockage of the filament.  Just a note as well here, if your head is right up against your surface there is no room for the filament to come out; thus you could hear a lot of clicking as there is no where for the filament to go and the pressure will mount fast, even tho the heat is just fine.

So!  If you have your tube fine but still hear clicking, try these things:

Make a perfect calibration!  A level bed and the right height will solve a lot of issues.  Try the paper test to see if your head has enough gap.

Use different bed tape.  The tape you put on your bed could be too thick, or not very smooth.  This will raise the bed height just enough to block the nozzle.

If you hear consistent clicking the entire print, you might try upping the extruder heat in 3 degree increments until it stops. (don't get too crazy with the heat)

Lastly, clean your extruder gears, xyz made a little port to do this and included a brush for it.  When the extruder gears get full of filament dust, they get smoother and cannot grip the filament as well, causing slippage.

Hope these tips help!

Great post.  Sometimes people come up with great solutions to fix the symptoms without understanding the root cause.  I'm not saying that's what happened here.  Just in general.

I found the issue a few days ago. the quick connect for the pfte tubing was pinching the tube itself due to 3 of the little teeth being broken... I ordered 10 new fittings from amazon and issue seems to be resolved... thanks!

Do you have a link to the fittings?

I saw this posted on a you tube video and just ordered them.  I will come back and delete this post if they end  up not working.
