Topic: Filement won't come out smoothly

The filament won't go through the extruder properly. Even if I take it out and have it heated and I try pushing it through by hand it doesn't come out as smooth as it supposed to or like it does on my other ones. Any suggestions?

Perhaps it is not as uniform in diameter or contains too much moisture to work properly.

Sounds like a partial clog in the nozzle/heater block.
I had this recently and had to strip the extruder right down and clean the area inside the heater block after unscrewing the heatbreak.

How would you suggest to clean it?

Re: Filement won't come out smoothly

What I did was carefully scrape out any larger pieces of gunk out of the heater block then soaked it in acetone for half an hour or so.
I also soaked the thread on the heat break which connects to the heater block as it wasn't screwing in as far as it should due to some gunk around the thread.
To be honest though, it hasn't been the same since. I'm finding ABS prints ok but PLA is hit or miss (it was previously printing great with a bid of modding).
I'm currently in the middle of upgrading to an E3D V6 Lite in the hope of better reliability and print quality.
