Topic: 2KG 8-Color Assortment! GROUP BUY?!?

After a few months of 3D printing in exclusively black ABS, and always wanting to print with other colors, but not wanting to drop the few 100 dollars go set up a nice cache of color filament, I have found this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251207053159

it's a rainbow pack of 8 different colors.  It comes as 2 reels, each with 250 grams each of 4 colors.  Black, red, white, and blue on one reel,  purple, green, orange, and yellow on the other reel.

The 2KG pack is $60.00.  they come from BC Canada.  Shipping was quoted to me in NY at $30.00  which isn't bad...

to quote Albert Goldman from The Birdcage:  "One does want a hint of color..."

Side Note:  I just ordered their last set.  They do expect to be re-stocking and shipping in 4-6 weeks...

I'd be willing to manage a group-buy.  With 40 orders, I could get them down to $55 per 2KG Rainbow Pack and get the shipping down to about $20 for US shipping.

That's under $40 per KG, delivered to your door.

Re: 2KG 8-Color Assortment! GROUP BUY?!?

yes, there are cheaper sources, but that isn't the point.  I, for example, print alot of black stuff - that's the nature of my project, so while I don't NEED colors for my project, I would like to print other colors when making stuff for the kids or whomever.

To get 8 colors buying 2 lbs of each color will run you (at $40 each + shipping)   $320 or more.

This route gets you 8 colors for about $60 (plus shipping)

Re: 2KG 8-Color Assortment! GROUP BUY?!?

I just received my order.   After printing colorful butterflies, and doing some mid-print color changes and all that fun, I realized something...

This is actually some nice filament.   Very consistent thickness, and no crackling during prints, which I assume is either air bubbles or moisture.  The color changes haven't de-laminated, even with the 2 minute delay.

Edit.  Both PLA and ABS available.  Two separate links below.

Just saw this on Tindie.  You can order multiple colors in 100 gram increments for $8 and $3 shipping within the US.  Much more pricey than the larger order you were talking about but it might be a good way to try out some new colors before you buy bulk or just add a splash of color where you need it.  I have not ordered yet but I thought ya'll might be interested.

Re: 2KG 8-Color Assortment! GROUP BUY?!?

update:

I have been printing like a madman with this stuff...   doing some multicolor prints and other fun stuff.

I've had some issues with some knots and kinks.  So I contacted the supplier and told them so.
Their excellent response was that their spooling machine was having some issues on the first few runs (from which I got my order), so they are going to send me a whole new batch - I just have to pay for shipping.  Fair enough I think.

Once I get the new reels (about a week) I'll post another update.

I'm considering working with them as a US distributor for them, which will keep the prices and shipping down to a total of about $70 for 2KG total, as 250g of each of eight colors.

Knots aside, I have been very happy with this filament.  I've been measuring at random points, and the diameter has been very consistent at 1.75mm, with occasional variations ranging from 1.73mm and 1.77mm.

Re: 2KG 8-Color Assortment! GROUP BUY?!?

Hi,

The Tindie store you mentioned is mine.  I've recently changed to sell full 1 kg rolls.

The filament is made in China by a plastics manufacturer that is dedicated to producing filament for 3D printing.  It is not generic plastic welding rods.  The plastic is screened during manufacturing process to catch impurities.  The filament is wound on plastic spools with a wider diameter core so that the filment are not as tightly coiled toward the end of the spool.

Most of the people that have printed with my "sample packs" have generally been very happy with it.   I think it's good quality filament.

I charge $36 per 1kg roll.  $5 flat shipping.  If you use promo code 194E2ED (limited time/limited use coupon), I'll take $5 off the order -- in effect, it's free shipping via USPS Priority Mail.

At this time, I only sell in the U.S.

If there is enough interest in sample quantities, I'll probably bring them back.  I only had smatterings of orders, though, and now that I have a more fully stocked warehouse, I am pushing the full spools now.

For the record, I carry ABS and PLA in 1.75 mm and 3.00 mm.

Thanks.
Joseph

I got this for just about $25 shipping, but that might be because I am just across the border in Buffalo, NY

I tried BotFeeder Filaments, which in made in Taiwan.
They are pretty good. No problem with the filaments.
You can check with them.
