Topic: End to Filament issues? 'Pro' now being advertised

I'm a complete newbie, and am looking for issues I have with my newly bought AiO.
One of the issues I continually read about is that of filament proprietary cartridges, and related subjects.
I have just visited the XYZ support site (Stop laughing!) and I just happened to click on the store button.

They now have the following listed:

http://us.store.xyzprinting.com/preorder/daVinciPro

The banner advert states 'daVinci 1.0 Pro ......Open Filament Source'

Does this mean what I think it means? they are actually going to allow what everyone wants and needs? and will there be the software/firmware to allow temperature adjustments etc?

It's probably true, but I would not ever buy from XYZ Printing again.  I mean, it's not made in the USA, it's made in Thailand.  Most of it's parts are cheap.  The printers are great, it's good to get your feet wet with these printers, but I would not invest in them as your 3d printer supplier.
Just my thoughts about it...

For what it's worth Makerbots are made in New York and they are just about the worst 3D printers you can buy for the money.

Yup, exactly right.  I almost kicked one of their boxes at Fry's

Control over heat, third party filament, wifi, aluminum print bed... and a laser engraver.

Looks like they are paying some attention to what a customer wants.

If i didn't just buy the Duo i would have gone for this one .... There is a lot of bad reviews on the Davinci but my experience so far has been good ... It worked straight out of the box and these Pro's look even better smile

To me the Pro just looks like a supersized Jr. if that is the case then it will have issues like the Jr. and may even be locked into the RF tag scheme the Jr. uses.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

Not going to EVER buy a printer for XYZPrinting again, you could get an even better, and not to mention Open Source printer for just a few hundred bucks more. And now there are a bunch coming out a little cheaper then XYZPrinting's and are Open Source.
