Topic: 12v Power Run

I am going to be installing my E3D V6 this weekend hopefully assuming the family schedule allows.  I have a 4 pin extender that I would like to use to go between the printer board and the 4 pin from the XYZ power supply.

I was able to get the JST pins out of a neutral and 12v line from the extender plug.

I would like to solder the line to the 12v fan for the E3D onto the base of each pin and then reinsert the pin.

Assuming I can get this soldered on and secure it back in the plug, are there any concerns with doing the power this way?  I can solder to the mother board but thought this might be a safer and if needed, reversible method.  I would really appreciate your thoughts on the approach.  I could use a T-connecter to tap the line but I am not sure that will make the best connection.

Also I plan on using bullet splice connectors (http://www.gardnerbender.com/en/20-161p) to connect the heater cartridge wire to the hot end and possibly on the other end of the 12V fan assembly.  I would like to make this easy to plug in and take out.  Any concerns with using these connectors?  Anyone have problems with them?  I know some have used them.

I am planning to use line from a network cable for the 12v fan needed on the E3D V6.

Thanks

Mark

Re: 12v Power Run

Those connectors are fine, I use them on all mt printers.

Yes you can tap in to the 12 there. Fans draw less than AMP and the power supply won't even know it is there.

If you want a cable that is flexible I would use a USB cable instead. The network cable is usually solid conductor and is not suited for flexing much.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Thanks Carl.  I will sacrifice a USB cable then for the electrical run.  Thanks for the tip.
