Topic: Airwolf3D printers... careless quality checks?

So I have something else to note about Airwolf's HD2x. Yes, I know, seems to be adding up.

This one is on the quality side. Nothing really major, and not something that will effect print quality, but nonetheless it's a pretty bit oversight for a $4,000 printer.

I decided to attempt a replacement of my hobbed bolt, and since I've seen a lot of hype on here about the hobb-goblin, I ordered one from Filastruder for the heck of it. My old one was clicking a lot (though it probably just needed a good cleaning). I started the replacement, and the first thing I noticed was that the printed extruder mount was broken at one of the mount screws. I noticed this when I got the printer, but I just discounted it as shipping damage or something, and since it doesn't effect the print, I never complained to support.

However, when I started to take the mount off for my replacement, I noticed that the screw was badly bent. I don't think that could have happened during shipping, although I guess it might be possible.

On the hobbed bolt, I've already noticed a drastic improvement - the hobb-goblin really helps, and I havent heard the first click since I changed it out. However, take a look at how rusted the old one is (the top one from my second extruder, for comparison) and how much junk is in the teeth - is this normal?

for that kind of money, it should be put together far better than it is. Seems you have had far too many issues with this thing, from hotend problems to this?

Personally, I would be on the phone with these people looking for some blood - but, that is me... you spent $4000 for what? a couple more inches of build volume and dual extruders... hmm... I think I will keep my sub $500 SD4 with its 8x8x8 & single extruder.

Seriously though, I think anyone would be better off steering clear of Airwolf. With as many quality oversights and under-powered heaters, etc, there are far better options out there. The main attraction for me was the ability to print PC - which it did, for a while at least.

Seriously tho, yeah - it should have been a far better machine than what you got for that kind of dough.

and didn't you upgrade to E3D? you should be printing PC with no problems now. smile oh yeah (looks at signature) and a Volcano at that... so LOTS of PC flinging. hehehe

Seems you don't always get what you pay for. I find it a pain to go through support for stuff like this anyway (Two weeks ago I ordered a replacement tension arm that broke [guess what - it was printed, and it broke along a layer] and still havent gotten it). I guess the best thing to do is warn others.

and I agree, Airwolf should be thoroughly embarrassed

$4000? why does it have any printed parts on it? regarding your last picture there...

also, that bent screw is insane. it would require a nontrivial amount of force to do that.

I didn't know it had printed parts until it arrived - you can't tell in their pictures and they don't mention it.

+1 on the amount of force it would take to bend that screw!

Just for the hell of it I tried bending a screw I had sitting around, a 30mm M3. Broke the head off before it would bend like that... haha

But yeah... anything above say $3000 not using molded parts... shaking my head
