Topic: My review after one year

NERD RAGE MODE ON

Don't buy this printer unless you want to do many modifications and they will not be fun. Face hours of stress induced madness as you spiral into a state of constant pain and frustration. You will soon be catapulted unknowingly onto a burning heap of customs that is the XYZ customer base. The company is a satanic cult that is run by some idiot who does not know the first thing about design. This products firmware and software is a massive FUCK YOU.

Problems and solution

1. The cables connecting the the steppers and extrudes are flimsy and crappy, they will brake and need to be replaced such as I did with the yellow cable in the pictures.
2. The software is shit. Don't use it.
3.The heated bed cracks and is a pain to fix.
4.The Filament is expensive.
5. XYZ is as full of shit as Nintendo

Flash and forget, use picture frame glass as a bed and replace the connectors. Problem solved.

Over all this is a great and wonderful machine as long as you mod it and treat it well.http://soliforum.com/i/?NaOI5LJ.jpg

Re: My review after one year

What are the cables and connectors it's necessary to replace? All of them?

(What are the steppers? Sorry, I know this is a very dumb question)

Re: My review after one year

Most likely a USB cable that has been repurposed as the wiring harness for one of the stepper motors. (x axis if I'm correct)

Re: My review after one year

Yes, I used a ether net cable to replace the one XYZ used. That is the X axis stepper motor!

Re: My review after one year

Is the motor the same as the stepper when you use these two words?

Are you meaning that the harness wiring of X-Axis motor could be changed by usb or ethernet cables? (This question is just because my limited understanding of English, sorry)

Re: My review after one year

What he is sayin that the original wiring harness that connects the mother board to the stepper motor failed.
He used a Ethernet cable to make a new wiring harness to connect the two.

So the basic of what he has said is:

the OEM wiring harness uses low quality wiring.
the XYZ software is not very good.
the heated bed uses low quality glass it will crack. Once cracked it is hard to replace.
the xyz filament is overpriced.

His conclusion is

You will want to flash to a open firmware so you can use better software, and 3rd party filament. (although you can use simplify3d without flashing but your still stuck with xyz filament)
You will need to replace the OEM wiring.
put picture frame glass on the top of your current one to keep it from chipping or if it has chipped but is still working.
but that if you flash the printer and make some small mods its a good printer

or at least that is what I get from it.

Yes in this case when he is said stepper he is talking about the stepper motor.

Based off the picture he clipped the ends off the Ethernet cable and off the ends of the davinci wiring harness.
He then soldered these ends on the Ethernet cable to form a new wire harness.

Re: My review after one year

I would go a step further and buy the pins, housing, and crimper and remake the cable using a USB or Ethernet cable from connector to connector. As long as you still have the original stock cable even if it is just a few MM from the connector to solder to it is still a weak link. I had planned to do this but instead replaced the printer and sold to another guy willing to tinker with it.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Thank you. Fortunately I understand almost everything when all of you write, however I sometimes need a bit to get it, just in some little fragment or some word. So that the meaning involving the ethernet cable was as I understood.
