Topic: help With top layer.

I am sure this has been covered here before. but can someone please help me figure out what I need to change in order to make the top of this fill in. I am using simplify3d settings were 10% infill 0.1000 player height 5 top solid layers 3 bottom solid layers 2 shells. when I look at the prievew in that section of the print it shows it covering that area several times.

perhaps even if someone could share a fff file

What speed and what temp are you printing that at?

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: help With top layer.

speed was around 1000 mm/m cause the layer cooling auto reduce for layers under 15 seconds, bed temp 90c -- extruder temp 225c

it looks incredible in real life all but the top where it didn't fill and didn't bridge.

Re: help With top layer.

Settings seem good.

I would be surprised if the 1.0 could really do a layer height of .1 with all stock like yours. Yes it might make it on single walls and sparse infill but you see the shortcomings in solid layers and bridging. I would change your layer height to .15 or .2 and see if that makes a difference unless you really need it to be .1. Honestly you won't notice the visual difference between .1 and .15 but it will make an impact on machine performance. I never had any luck when trying to get the1.0 I had down to that .10 layer size. Even with Repetier firmware and Simplify3D I still could not get the stock extruder and hotend to do better than .2 consistently and .15 occasionally.

They claim it can do .10 but they also claim it can print with PLA and we all know what you have to do to make that happen.

Re: help With top layer.

I agree that is one reason I swapped out to the e3d.

I also repurposed the fan to be a layer cooling fan controlled by repetier and that helps a lot with bridges
