Topic: New 1.0 from Amazon - Can still flash Repetier???

So I have confirmed my 1.0a's usb port is dead via a lightning strike that hit the house a couple of weeks ago. I went ahead and ordered a blue 1.0 Da Vinci from amazon last night and it should be here tomorrow.

Can I safely assume I will be able to flash Repetier .92 on it (like I had on my old one). Is there any difference between the blue and grey ones outside the color of the sides?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Yes you can. Yes there is a difference between the blue and grey printers. The blue one is a 1.0a. there have been some improvements like the shims that are in that they may not be in a grey version. and they may have a different mother board but the new 1.0a mb can still be flashed.

Are the blue ones the 1.0a and the grey ones the 1.0??

Mine is grey and as far as I know it's a 1.0a.

Am I rightly understanding? Have you bought a new Da Vinci because you have a broken usb port?

Yep that's what is sounds to me, I guess he didn't want to upgrade the board to a better one.

Look at the first 6 digits of your serial number. If there is an A in it then you have a 1.0A. The blue one is newer model and is a 1.0A. However the 1.0A was made in the gray model for a while.

Some people may not have the technical skill needed for such a thing or have disposable income and find it easier just to replace the whole thing not knowing the board an firmware is downfall of all Da Vinci printers.

Yes, my serial number (under the code bar) contains an A in the fifth position. So, grey 1.0A.

That is correct. Lightening strike took out the usb. It is a 1.0a. I haven't received the new one yet (amazon messed up with delivery and now they are saying tomorrow). If I did decide to upgrade/install a new one, how tough is it. I'm fairly good at tinkering but with the quick search I did earlier it looked like a pretty big project...

Are you going to keep the dead one or are you looking to get rid of it?  Let me know.

Its not hard, there is a thread on here that will show you how to do it. I will try and find the thead. On the PS there will be only 3 connectors you will need 2 of then you will have to make (a 4 wire plug using one of the old connectors and also make a power wire using old power switch) and that's it. You will have a ton of wire left over to do whatever you want with.

Thanks. Appreciate any help I can get. If it isn't too difficult, I may just take it on...
