Topic: Filistruder Motor Quit

I was running the machine today and the motor just quit.  I had been running some through, trying to purge the color of a batch I just finished.  I shut it off and turned it back on but I get nothing out of the motor.  No noise or movement at all.  I put another motor on the power lines and it worked so it's getting power.

Roughly how many hours on it?

Does it run unloaded? (no auger attached)

Beta motor or standard?

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

Just as a wild guess I'd say about 500 hrs on the motor.  It does not do anything with no load.  It was a standard motor.  The model starts with 555

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

If it doesn't move unloaded, there might be something stuck in the gears. It's worth inspecting them. If the gears are fine, I can supply a motor for a whole lot less than the full gear motor. If its a faulty gear, I have spares of those too.

500 hours is some serious filament production!

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

I took the motor off and opened it up.  I didn't see anything in it but a big glob of grease.  I can't turn anything by hand though.  I didn't figure I would be able to.

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

You should be able to turn the gears near the motor by hand. If not, something is jamming them.

You can also unscrew the motor from the gearbox. Attempting to run it standalone will determine whether the motor or gearbox has failed.

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

I played with it some more.  I was able to turn the small gears by hand.  I pulled off the 2 by the motor so the motor could turn freely.  I plugged it in and nothing.  I don't get a buzz, a jump, a smell, a whine or anything.  So, it would appear to be the motor, not the gear box.  If I understood your previous post.

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

Yes indeed! I think I have some spare motors kicking around, I can check on Monday.

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

Ok, if not, I've been thinking about upgrading to the newer motor anyway.

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

Checkout my thread 'motor stuffed'.  I go through the armature checks.
If there is muck on the commutator lugs you get the situation where the motor does not start. Just rotate the motor armature via the cooling fan and try again.

Post text ....

The armature was ok in that you measure the resistance between neighbouring commutator pads and between opposite 180 degree positioned pads, and between pad and shaft/pole. There are five poles on this one.
Seemed ok in that the ohms were about 0.6 and no higher (measured in M ohms) values, that would indicate open circuit, and no short circuits to armature.

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

I have a couple 555 series motors on hand, get in touch through the contact form if you'd like one.

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

I got the new motor and it is great!  It quieter and faster than the old one.  Now I'll have to beef up my power supply, right now I'm just using an extra PC power supply for the motor and I use that for other things from time to time.  Anyway.  Thank you for all the help.

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

Hi!
I have broblem with my new Filastruder, with motor RS 775SH series.
It seems it's thread 'motor is too much stuffed, probably factory defect,
and it soak too much current (abot 2A and 3A) with no load (without gears attached.
Has somebodu else this problem?

Re: Filistruder Motor Quit

To be clear.
According factory specifications runing motor without load takes from source
0.55A. In my case i takes more than 2A.
