Topic: Skew in Solidoodle Workbench

I just had the chance to unbox my dual extruder workbench this weekend. I have been a happy user of a UP Plus 2 before.

It seems like the Y axis gets skewed after the first 20 layers. I don't see any mechanical problems with the belts or the  Y-axis motor. Is this a known problem? Am I supposed to update to a new firmware?

(Apologies for the image quality. There is really not much to see other than the fact that the model starts skewing towards +Y after the model is 1/4 inches high)

Re: Skew in Solidoodle Workbench

Y axis drive issues are not uncommon on the SD line. Check the belt tension check the set screws on the pulleys.
run some test circles see if the circles are round.  welcome to the world of solidoodle.
would not hurt to check vref but I suspect needs a little mechanical adjustment.
These machines do need to be tunded up and adjusted out of the box. Just like a bicycle or many other things. they are assembled but not tuned or adjusted at the factory. At least do not think they are.

Thank you! I am quite excited about this printer.

You are right, the belt tension was one of the issues! I followed the steps in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YazR23Zn2xk which helped me spot a loose screw, and need for lube in the Y-axis rods.

Right now it is printing the venerable coin op bottle opener, and at 1/4 inch no problems so far :-)

Keep us posted on your experience with the Workbench. We have one at our school and I am personally interested in everyone else's experiences with this printer, good and bad.

Re: Skew in Solidoodle Workbench

The problem turned out to be a combination of extruder height calibration and the belt tension.

I've a few planes from thingiverse with the printer after that. Worked great.
