Topic: extruder

Hello,
I have had my press for about a half year.  i am trying to make some things for work and such but I can't.  I can't because the little wheel that pushes the filament into the actual small extruder will start to make a loud and rapid clicking sound.  tic-tic-tic-tic-tic!  After about 10 seconds of ticking the wheel will move itself up and stop filament movement.  I would Appreciate it if someone could tell me what I could do to stop the wheel from moving and or just have a solution.  Thanks.

Re: extruder

What material are you printing with and what temperatures are you using?

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

i was using ABS and my extruder temp was 230*  I dont think this is necessary because it is the wheel not the temp

The ticking as you describe is a symptom of the feed motor slipping due to the filament being jammed for some reason. Either you have a clog, your temp is too low, or you are too close to your bed. As for the wheel the moving up that is just a by product of the first problem. Finding the reason for the initial clicks should be your first course of action.

Re: extruder

I have the same problem, one guy said it's a bad cable going into the extruder motor
apparently replacing that helped some people out , but I haven't got To it yet

Re: extruder

Open the lower plate (where the mainboard is). Carefully get out the main board, making sure you dont remove any wires. Put a fan over the mainboard, concentrating on the place where extruder driver is.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!!!!! (for me it worked anyway).

Re: extruder

ok i just found an alternative solution

all i did was dip the end of the filament in mineral oil before putting it in, it worked like a dream with no problems since!!!
