Topic: Voltivo excelfil 1.75 and flashed XYZ 1.0A question

Good morning all,

As you can see I am a relative newbie. I have also posted this on the voltivo forum, hope that's OK to say. I have an XYZ 1.0A that has been flashed since I received it. Never even tried it with the original. Anyhow, Have just started using Exelfil 1.75 black and have gone through an extruder heat calibration with steps every 5 degrees from 220 to 255. My best results seem to occur at 250C. This seems high to me, but what do I know. Melting point on the box indicates 260C and the temp graph on the Voltivo site indicates 226C for the speed I am running (40). I do not have an additional instrument to check the accuracy of the davinci extruder temp readings.

Is anyone out there using the same filament who can compare their extruder temps with mine?

I've never used Exelfill, but 250C seems excessively high for ABS.  Especially when their own recommendation is at 228C for 40mm/s.  Have you contacted Voltivo?

Just got back and have had some time to play.  Oliver from Voltivo (a moderator on another forum) indicated that he had seen XYZ machines with similar temp issues and had corrected them with some firmware changes. This is beyond my skill level, but I did purchase a thermocouple temp meter and measured the extruder temp when the display was showing 230C (cleaning mode). Placing the k thermocouple next to the extruder orifice after the extruder had been heating for 10 minutes, I was able to get 5-7 minutes of "consistent" reading.  I now have done this twice with the same results.  My actual readings swung between 198C and 205C both times.  this gives an average of 201.5C @ a display value of 230C and thus a 28.5C difference.
If I take the optimum extruder temp, as suggested by Voltivo, of 226C adding the 28.5C gives a value of 254.5C.  This seems to support the 250C setting I was using through experimentation.

The bottom line to this for me is that, I am not able to modify firmware so I will just add the offset of 28.5C to my builds and set extruder temp @ 254.5C.

Now to look at the heated bed.
