I have a stock sd4 have only printed pla . Not a heavy user . I have heard dipping the filament tip in canola oil will improve printing. HAve not tried it. If you compare msds sheets on various oils you will see MANY are mineral oil. just with a different label instrument oil knife honing oil sewing machine oil , way oil of course various additives even perfume may be added .
If you do a quick google search of canola oil and pla you will see a bit of discussion on various forums . People have mentioned grape seed oils and peanut oils as well as the aforementioned mineral oil and canola oil.
The idea here is PLA is corn starch base and a bit sticky when heated. a drop of oil on the tip seasons the innards of the hot end much as one would season iron cook ware.
the need for the seasoning depends on the internal finish of the hot end and if it has a liner.
So the need to do this would be based on what hot end you have what material you use.
