Topic: Odd slicing problems with newest XYZ software?

Until recently, my Davinci (and the XYZWare software) have functioned essentially flawlessly, when using .STLs generated by SolidWorks.  In the past few weeks, however, slicing has been having strange problems.

1.  Not a single model has sliced correctly.  It slices them, and the result is a bunch of garbage... some tessellated crap on the build platform that bears no resemblance to the model I imported.
2.  If I run the STLs through Netfab, I end up with more successful slicing, but odd artifacts.  For example, it might add a thin web/bridge across a hole, for no reason, or it will get a thin, indented line in one face (resembling a panel line seam where two halves of an injection molded part meet... but it was a single flat face in the model).  I have never needed to do this before - hundreds of prints have been made since I got the printer at Christmas, with no netfab and no issues.

I'm not sure what has changed.  I have not upgraded SolidWorks in several months.  I think I did upgrade XYZWare... I'm now running 1.1.36.16.

Anyone else experiencing stuff like this, or have any suggestions?

Also, I should mention that the original and NetFab "_fixed" .STL models do not show any obvious visual signs of these defects if I open them in SolidWorks (open the .STL, not the .SLDPRT SolidWorks file).

You are probably one of the few that still use XYZware. Most have went to Simplify3D or changed out their controllers to go full open source. I know this does not help you, but be aware that XYZ is actively trying to make sure people only use their software and filament. So every upgrade of their software and firmware is only meant to make it harder for you to use other software. I have also read that although solidworks is good, it should not be used alone as the model will have errors and should go through netfabb or other repair service. Personally I use Tinkercad and have yet to have to repair a model.

Thanks, but that's pretty far off topic.

1.  I can't think how trying to get customers to use their filament has anything to do with getting odd slicing artifacts.  If you have a practical theory on that, please share it.
2.  Similarly, as I mentioned in the post, I have literally hundreds of models successfully printed, all made exclusively in SolidWorks, without a single issue... until now they all don't work.

But you said you updated their software. Therefore their software is screwing up your models. uninstall their software then use the version from the CD and I bet you artifact will go away. People stopped updating their firmware and software several months ago and even added it to their firewall so it would be blocked as recently they have resorted to forced updates.

I'm trying to determine if other people, who are using the stock software, are having any similar issues.

I know you have a huge beef with XYZ and their software and cartridge practices.  You can't help but share it in practically every post you make.  Therefore, you're clearly not the audience for my topic, as I'm asking about the stock software and firmware.  I wasn't asking about whether I should upgrade to 3rd party stuff.

I did not say use other software. I in fact said to use the original version of xyzware that came with the printer on the CD. If I was as you say so against them then I would not have made such a suggestion. I also do not believe that everyone of my nearly 2000 post say something against them as most of my post are help with mechanical issues for Da Vinci as well as other printers.

I can report a similair problem. I am using Tinkercad and generate STL files. When I import the model in the XYZ software everything is ok. When I print the model it bridges parts of holes. You can see this artefacts in the XYZ printing software when you  interrupt printing (see the red marked area). It doesn't happen anytime. First I thought this happens only when moving the object within the XYZ software, but for this object it happens anytime. I am using the daVinci 1.0 for some month without any problems... http://soliforum.com/i/?ilqZQJy.png
