Topic: Bed levelling after flashing repetier ?

So I'm going to flash my 1.0 today and the only thing I'm not quite clear on is levelling.
Is it necessary to use auto cal after flashing or just manually level ?

Its your choice, but I would use the manual method since the auto is still looking for similar numbers the stock version did and those are too high..

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Thanks, just wondered if the firmware required an auto cal first.

Wow, what a difference. Terrific print quality !!
Another benefit seems to be that my Toshiba Flashair card is working better too. Uploads are way faster.
My only regret is not making the switch sooner.
One thing I noticed was that the print speed seems quite a bit slower.
I cranked up the speed in the firmware to 150% and that seems spot on but I can't see a way to store this setting.
I had guessed "store to eeprom" would do it but that didn't seem to work.

I am thinking of doing the same thing. Do you do the same calibration as done in the "Bed Leveling for Beginners" thread or is there a different manual method?

Yup, same deal.
Make sure you drop your bed quite a bit after flashing before starting a print so the head doesn't slam into the glass. Then just do the paper levelling as normal.

Nothing else on the firmware side but I'm still fine tuning my slicer settings.
I'm finding quite a big difference in print speeds compared to stock.
One thing I would say is, if you're at all hesitating to make the switch, just go for it. It's soooo much better than stock !

At part 4, I just copy & pasted the entire "hardware" folder and it saved a bit of time.

It's taken me the best part of the day to get everything dialed in but it was well worth it.
The Repetier side didn't take too long but the slicer settings needed a bit more tinkering.
Good luck with yours, you won't regret it. wink

What did you use as the machine in S3D?

I didn't change it from how it was under stock firmware. It's still set at Cartesian robot.
What I did change was the extrusion multiplier. Bumped it up to 1.20.
Also reduced retraction distance to 2mm to fix a bit of under extrusion.
And I'm finding ABS feeds better at 225°C.
Still trying to get my head round print speeds, seems very different to the stock firmware.

Turns out my confusion over print speeds was nothing to do with repetier.
I've been scratching my head the past 2 days trying to work out what was going on with a model I've been trying to print.
The problem was with Simplify3D which has a "cooling" feature that automatically reduces the print speed for smaller layers.
That was causing this particular print to crawl to a halt at certain parts so I changed the settings to something less aggressive.
