Topic: ABS Juice (blows away purple glue stick)

I have started using "ABS Juice" for the print bed instead of glue stick.  It is nice and clean (no more dry glue fluff everywhere), and works extremely well.  I have done quick flat parts and large 15hr prints.
I make mine using 1g ABS to 10g Acetone... I keep small amounts of some colors and large amounts of white on hand.  Mostly made from scrap support from when I used to use supports on my prints.
Make a small bottle (let sit overnight before first use) shake well and apply with a folded paper towel.
Mine is probably a little thicker than necessary but I haven't spent the time to really nail down the perfect ratio...I know 1.5:10 is too thick.
To release prints I push the edge of a razor blade under one spot , then work the plastic scraper under slowly to fully remove the print.

Ill stick with purple glue sticks. They have never done me wrong and once the part cools I can simply pick it up and have had no problems with a 24 hour print.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Agreed on the slurry, it has increased my success rate especially on prints that have many holes starting in the first layer.  All the bed leveling and glue stick would not get the small hole perimeters to stick.

I use these pucks to spread the slurry, just pour some slurry and spread with the puck.

Interesting...just use acetone and let it dissolve the puck while spreading.  Ill give it a shot, if it works well I can scrap all the little bottles I keep around.

I agree the glue works well ( I did my T rex on glue), it just gets messy the way I used it...and either way I always had to start the release with a razor blade.  The bottom does come out much nicer with ABS, smooth and glossy.  I also acetone fume most of my prints so after sanding the glue they came out nice too.  I just find the acetone easier overall, and since im a chemist I am used to working with the flammable aspect etc so not an issue with me.

I still use a slurry, but found the pucks as a great way to spread it vs a brush of some kind.

There are a lot of variables (bed, ambients temp, humidity, filament, to name a few) and what works for one person may not for another.  I used ABS Juice for a while, then discovered glue sticks work better and used those for a while.  Then I discovered hair spray.  In my experience that "blows away" both ABS Juice and glue stick.  In fact it works too well and I have to take care to prevent it from lifting the glass off in splinters when I try to remove the part.  For very large prints I have developed a technique of printing the first layer at a bed temp of 105C, @pause'ing the print and cooling the bed down to 60C before continuing.  At 60C, the hairspray "sets" and it won't come loose without breaking the glass.  Once the print is done, I heat the bed back up to 100C and scrape off with a razor blade.

Well lol, works too well is not working IMHO. My deal is I want the easiest way to adhere any print ( ABS wise), the quickest, cleanest, easiest to release base.  Purple glue works great I agree (sometimes borderline too good as well), but it is messy any way you deal with it.  "Juice" also has the added benefit of making the bottom of the print smooth and glassy, with zero effort.
I cant babysit my printer most times either, so Ill use anything that is "set and forget".

I've used both (ABS paste on an Ultimaker 2, UHU stick (the stuff that comes with the printer) and hair spray. In my experience, the UHU stick works exceptionally well with ABS, while hairspray works well with PLA, and alright with ABS. Considering i can get a lifetime supply (12 sticks) of UHU stic for 10 bucks on amazon, and have, i'm probably sticking with them for a while.
