I will not go as far as to say they have no quality control but it appears to be mostly up to the builder to inspect and test the components. They are not bad kits and they will replace any bad parts.
my power supply had the fan or fan switch not connected to the board. they replaced the PS a friend of mine purchased an ft5 kit the PS was doa and so was one of the thermometers.
The ft6 is a huge printer with lot of potential . If you sourced a rail core kit it would be a whole lot more .
if you need or want a printer that big go for it.
make sure you inventory and test parts.

The duet is a popular high end board IMHO a bit overkill to put in a davinci more common in the rail core designs.
there will be parts in the davinci that will need to be replaced.

Thanks for the info. I considered flashing the board but I would rather leave the stock one alone so it can quickly switch back if things are not going well. This is an experiment you know. I am planning to use the panel Duet 7. All of this is going into the RailCore eventually.

David,

I have rebuilt a Solidoodle Workbench, using a DuetWiFi. It's been a learning curve, going from a Printrboard with Marlin firmware, to a Duet with RepRap firmware...but the results have been worth it.

The board itself is great, with a host of features. I could find no other Workbench-to-Duet conversion to draw information from. The Duet Wiki and other online resources have been a wealth of helpful information. I even included a PanelDue7i in the overhaul. The online configurator is a good start, but I still had considerable tweaking to do...which is easy through the web interface.

This thing is going to standalone in my garage, and make DIY and car parts!

-Kevin

The cost mostly affect its popularity, and the amount of community support.

I usually would recommend flash 1.0 AIO to Repetier-firmware if the stock board is still functional.

There are currently multiple guide on how to convert da vinci 1.0 to RAMPS board. the major challenge is to connect and configure optical endstop. I assume you will use mechanical endstop when you build your rail core, so that should not be a issue for your final goal. Wiring the board should be very straight forward.

Duet 2 wifi use very different firmware and are configured very differently, you can extract all the necessary information from configuration.h file from the repetier-firmware. I'm sure it will be a very valuable learning experience.

Duet 2 wifi will not support Da Vinci LCD display and keypad, you will need to use the only touch screen LCD that Duet 2 wifi supported (hopefully the LCD cable is long enough since Da vinci board is mounted in the back of the machine). The thermistor temperature table is none-standard, the easiest solution is to replace the thermistor to something Duet 2 wifi support.

http://www.soliforum.com/topic/16731/ho … updated-4/

This topic is for SD printer with Duet wifi, but you might find some useful information or people to talk to.
http://www.soliforum.com/topic/16732/so … -overhaul/

Duet 2 WIFI is kind of expensive, therefore not as popular as MKS board or RAMPS board. It does not support popular Marlin or Repetier-Firmware, if you run into errors, it is going to be difficult to find help/support.
