you could just bring the stl into an easy to use 3d package like tinkercad and build your own supports with thing tops to snap them off. I did my first print using kisslicer with support yesterday and it worked pretty well but the bottom of the print has some holes but my print was largely off the bed.

I keep stealing my wife's cricut tools to use on my 3d printer. The picks that came in this tool set worked great t helping to remove these supports.

http://www.amazon.com/Cricut-7-Piece-To … B0013L9NN0

I'm sure these picks are available for a fraction of the price by some other vendor out there.

SO I wont get a massive solid honeycomb that is more plastic then the total part LOL. It would be nice to select where I want the support. Or delete sections after they are generated.

Flipped it over. 0.3 layer height support on at 2mm Honeycomb and support width was .3 diameter

Overall it printed well but the support was way too thick and broke the sides trying to rip it out.
The top came out much better but I didnt set the back as you can see as solid layer? Maybe I should turn my top layers to 10 so it gets captured as a solid infil.

It worked and there was little to no banding on the walls and minimal blobbing.
The model is a little off probably have to print it 1% bigger and gears 1% smaller.

But question. I could not find support flow rate in slic3r? Only the support width (at .3 ) am I missing something?

I use skeinforge which I hear is better at generating support anyway. I use either .6 or .7 ratio on my support depending on if it's contacting the bed or not. Thinnest you can get away with is best.

yes i though of that I figure then I would have 1/2" worth of support but I guess it is easier to break off and wont see it with the case on
\

Mu regular flow rate is .79 my support is it .7? Is that too much? it seemed pretty strong and solid to break off. I used 1.5mm honeycomb I might try a 2mm

Anyone get this to print well with slicer?

I realized I needed supports then I got it print ok
But:

1: the supports ruin the print trying to break off of the bottom and then they print on the vertical sides that snap onto the phone. Too much support

2: problem is the floor/back/bottom of the case is about 6 layers up from the bed. This allows the gears to rest flush I assume.

I should just start with simplier things like boxes and covers LOL

I used 0.98 slicr
1.5mm honeycomb support
.45 fill
.3 layer height
I turned on solid layers every 1 and infill every 1
top and bottom solids at 3
perimeters was 4
speed around 35mm/s

I was wondering do i just turn the infill off and print the bottom layer as 7 or 8 layers solid? (that way the floor is solid) everything after 10-47 is just the side walls

it printed well looks were OK not great the solid floor still had lots of little misses. Like the infil didn't touch the edges of the model. The sides came out ok with little to no banding

I think this would be a simpler model and more roboust if it was just one solid piece. Can you print this with gears in place and break them loose?
