<![CDATA[SoliForum - 3D Printing Community — Another belt tension method]]> https://www.soliforum.com/topic/11223/another-belt-tension-method/ Wed, 20 May 2015 18:25:16 +0000 PunBB <![CDATA[Another belt tension method]]> https://www.soliforum.com/post/96472/#p96472 There are several ways to tighten your belts on a solidoodle (or really any printer).  The stock carriages and the Lawsy carriages we all know and love use an M3 screw thru the belt to tighten it.  This is adjustable, but it hard to reach with an Allen wrench and can make the belts weaker.  Pirvan made another set of carriages that grab the teeth of the belt.  These hold the belts securely and can be tightened by changing how many teeth are pulled thru, but that is somewhat tedious.

Well, I was browsing thingiverse today and saw something that is so simple, I can't believe I didn't think of it myself.  A picture is worth 1,000 words so...

Just use a ziptie to tension your belts.  Simple.  Easy.  Cheap.  Durable.  What else could you want?

And instead of running the belt ends into the tooth grip part, just run the belt fully through that section and form the loops as shown directly above the carriage.  Then put the zip tie between the two belt ends and tighten it.  What are you thoughts?

Anyone want to take on modifying the X carriage to have a similar setup?  I'll give it a try but there are a lot better designers than me on these forums.
