I was thinking about doing this more effectively on my new merlin hotend, and I was planning on putting some silica heat transfer compound on the thermister before insertion. I was wondering if anybody has used red RTV high temp silicone to plug the hole and hold everything in place as opposed to just wrapping the butts out of it with kapton tape. It seems like it would be a good option, since it can handle the heat and is pretty easy to cut/pry/scrape off if you need to.

Basically, I just wanted to see if anybody else had run into trouble with this method before I sacrificed a hotend to the hotend gods.
