It's the same thing as tempered glass.

They are similar but Borosilicate Glass is all around better than Tempered Glass (IMHO).

Tempered glass is made so that internal stresses will shatter the glass if broken. Because of this internal stress, it has more resistance that standard soda-lime glass (I believe the stock glass is soda-lime). Once made, Tempered glass cannot be cut.

Borosilicate glass is made by replacing the calcium carbonate with boric oxide. It not only has the strength of tempered glass, but also has a lower thermal expansion. This glass will not shatter like tempered glass, so its not safety glass. This means that if you want, you can buy and cut glass to your needs (If you happen to want multiple replacement beds, and don't mind cutting glass.

If you have a choice, get Borosilicate. If not then tempered is also good.

The slot I cut in the top allows me to open the top fully with most spools.

I'm currently printing a different holder now that will allow the spool to feed directly in instead of sideways. It should sit lower and further away so the lid issue will be moot.

Created a hole in the top cover for filament pass-through
Replaced the bearing mounts
Added ninjaflex dampeners to all steppers
Borosilicate glass bed and improved heater
Simplfy3d
Removed extruder heater connector
Covered the optical sensor
Covered the top cover open sensor

I'm still printing with XZY firmware and the extruder assembly it came with.

Great setup..!! I used to have one like that in my Davinci, however everytime I had to open the cover to reset the cartridge the spool holder wouldn't let me open it completely ...that is until I moved the spool holder to the side using this one from thingiverse:

MUCH better since  I can now fully open the top cover for quick filament change and reset the cartridge anytime

Replacing the bearing mounts was the most challenging task, because I had to learn how to do it as I did it. If I ever had to do it again, it would probably take half the time now.

The cartridge resetter is a must-have though. I still can't believe I'm paying half the price and getting more filament now.

Holy crap lol
looks like a nice setup though and I really want to play with glow in the dark stuff...maybe once the warranty is done ill ask for help with this kind of upgrade.

lol yea the refill kit also comes with filiment so yea i thought of trashing the replacement filiment to use some from a spool but that just seems like a waste.

You could just take one of your empties,  cracked it open,  rewind it with other filament then use chip in refill kit and save the refill filament till later when you refresh.

I switched over to after-market spools a few weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with the results so far. I have more options (colors) to choose from and so far all three brands of filament I've used have been fine with good results.
