I usually try to have the filament make a half circle, so if the distance from the nozzle to the winder intake is the diameter, put the sensor at the radius. The bottom of the loop might end up being somewhere else no matter what you do, so ultimately put the sensor wherever the loop wants to be.

I find that 18" apart seems to be the minimum for 1.75 ABS, so 3mm should probably be a fair amount wider. If it is too close, the filament might tend to twist sideways rather than go down. The rigid L shape of the filament on the winder side is capable of holding up the J shape of the filament on the Filastruder side up to a point, so you want enough filament hanging that it can't support its own weight so it will drop into the sensor.

Hi folks,

What is the optimum position for the filawinder? Vertical configuration, 3mm filament, and assuming that the exact point of intake on the tubing has the same y coordinate (up/down) as the filastruder output. Unsure if this is relevant, but using Chi Mei PA-747.

Basically I just need to know the x coordinate for the filawinder intake, and then the x and y coordinates of the sensor. Assume that the filastruder output is the origin.

If my question isn't clear, I would be happy to draw a diagram.

Assuming that the filament size has an effect on this. Is that correct?

Thanks!
