Quick and easy mount to hold a 40x40mm fan to cool down the PEEK barrel of the solidoodle hotend.

OK. I know people say fans are very important. Can you all yell at me...Are they actually that important? Is it only needed for PLA? I'm running ABS at 230Celsius without a problem. I suppose perhaps I could benefit from a fan but even bridging tends to work pretty well.

Print the attached file at .3mm layer height. It is the type of print that really benefits from a fan. Try to thread the nut on the bolt when you get done. You might not have any issues at all, in which case, you wouldn't benefit too much from a fan.

This is a quick simple fan mount that I put together for the MK5. I am using this style because I didn't have enough room to make a fan with a duct. This seems to work really well but after not having a fan for a while, I'll use just about anything.

There isn't a lot to this mount. It just uses 2 M3 screws for each side of the mount. I used 10 mm for the screws in the carriage and 15mm for the screws in the fan.

This fan position works almost too well at cooling the prints. I had to mess with my cooling settings a bit. Here is what I ended up with that works really well for me.

This is offset in the Z+ so that it will work with the longer E3d and Printrbot hotends. This is worth having one in your spare parts bin as a backup.

Note: After you print, there is a single wall support that needs to be removed (should peel off) to reveal the mounting point.

Do you have the original file for the 40mm fan mount? I would like to reinforce the clips. I keep breaking them off.
