Ok I'll give Kisslicer a shot, would love to able to print this with correct sizing. I might start doing both with different projects and compare. I make alot of my own .stl files in solidworks and haven't started playing around with different slicing programs other than what comes with R.H. so maybe I might get better results with Kisslicer on some things.

2n2r5: Printed out your stl and worked great. The tolerances are a little low so there's play from the gear size reduction but it sliced fine and worked fairly well right off the bed. And thanks for the link, helps clarify a lot.

Thanks guys

I opened up the STL in Sketch Up. Then selected the middle gears and exported them as an stl. Then I did the same for the Outer ring and inner gear. I then ran the outer ring through netfabb and closed up a couple holes in the STL. I then imported them to RH where I aligned the 3 separate files and shrunk the middle gears by 99 percent in the x and Y axis only. Selected all the files and exported from RH as one file.

Different slicing software acts much different when it comes to perimeters. You should check out Ian's blog on the slicer run through. http://solidoodletips.wordpress.com/201 … tout-pt-4/

Yeah it's a stretch but I have seen other repraps do it. Do you mind explaining how you were able to reduce just the gear sizing, might be useful for in the future. Currently I am just blowing the part up to about 1.5x it's original size which has enough tolerance to slice well. But I will try this one, thanks.

What is weird is that skeinforge, even though it's slice doesn't look anywhere near as nice, doesn't combine perimeters like that so I was wondering if it was some slice setting I had incorrect, but I'll keep searching to try and understand better.

Those are some tight tolerances. Try slicing this file with Slic3r. This has the gear bearings reduced in size by .1% . I don't think that I could print that even on my printers best day.

Choose either one to test, I was doing the 6 gear but it still generates the perimeters the same on both. If it does work and you are using slic3r would you mind attaching your config file and i'll go through it to see what would be different. I'm currently using a slightly modified version of the .1mm solidoodle profile on slic3r 0.9.9. Thanks

Below is the image of the part I am trying to make, one of those 6 splined gear bearings however slic3r generates perimeters that include the outer gears instead of making them separate causing the piece to be printed unable to move. Is there a setting I have wrong, skeinforge doesn't do this but it's also not optimized the way slic3r is and I prefer to use that. Just wondering what could be the issue. I have images of both what I am trying to print and the generated gcode model. Thanks, any help appreciated.
