This is interesting, I decided to try vigorously cleaning the contacts of the ribbon cable that goes into the extruder and to the main board with an alcohol lens cleaning pad. I placed each end very carefully, and AMAZINGLY everything works again. I had a pretty suspicious feeling that the ribbon cable could be the problem since everything else was working except the temperature sensor even though the thermistor itself was perfectly fine.

Just wanted to let everyone know, XYZ's solution was to buy a new extruder. That did not fix the problem. Temperature read 10 degrees, and it would not heat the extruder to install the filament. I pretty much knew this was not going to solve the issue.

And XYZ does not sell other components such as the ribbon cable or the main board. That really stinks. So I have to figure out if it is worth my time to convert this printer to RAMPS or just buy a new printer...these days I've seen printers for $150-160 that have auto leveling built in. Maybe I'll just do that as opposed to the hassle of trying to convert this and the hours I have to commit to it. Also buying a generic 3D printer might be better than sending my unit in to get it repaired out of warranty. The shipping back to the company and then returned to me plus the cost of the repair will probably not be worth what I paid for the printer.

Well unfortunately replacing the thermistor did not work. Temperature is initially detected. But when I try to print or load the filament, it does the same thing. The temperature will fluctuate then drop to 10 degrees. The nozzle definitely gets hot. When I cycle the power, and look at the monitor mode, the fans kick in and the real temperature shows which starts going down since the fans are on.

So the thermistor is fine, and so is the heating element. Any other ideas?

Everything looks good in terms of the connection for the thermistor. I'm going to just buy one and install one just to see if that will fix the issue. I found a thread http://www.soliforum.com/topic/9866/rep … hermistor/ that talks about replacing the thermistor.

Now I do have a question about my particular thermistor to the pcb plug. There is a small black rectangular casing between the thermistor and plug. Do you think that is strictly used to connect the thermistor with the plug's wires?

Thanks kr15 for the input. I did try to reconnect the ribbon cable. That did not help. Funny thing is, like I said upon restarting the printer, the true temperature would show, but when I try printing again, the temperature would fluctuate between the real temperature and 10 degrees! Then fail again.

I haven't actually touched the tip to see if it is hot, but I believe it is because when it actually does print, either on the 2nd or 3rd restart, it prints right away because it is at the right printing temperature.

Looks like thermistor issue. On Jr when thermistor isn't plugged in it shows 10degree C therefore fails to print. But that 100degree C thing confuses me. Was the hotend heating up before E14 error?! Is it actually hot?!
If it is then either you have lose connection or thermistor is faulty.
1st try to disconnect and reconnect big ribbon cable, maybe it's playing up. If doesn't help try to open up hotend casing and check connection there for the thermistor.

Hey all, I've got a weird thing going on with my Da Vinci Jr that has happened recently.

When I print, as the extruder goes down from its top position, both fans (on extruder and on back of Da Vinci) are supposed to turn on. But this is not happening. It goes all the way to the bed, and the temperature that is displayed is 10 degrees which does not change. Then the 0014 error comes up and then the fans kick in!

When I shut down and restart the fans are still on and in Monitor mode, the temperature is 100+. If I reprint, after power cycling, sometimes it will work, but sometimes I have to cycle the machine 1 more time.

Any ideas what is going on? Is this something easily fixed? I don't think I can do a support call on this because I bought this from a friend's son and I don't know if he still has the receipt or if it is even still under warranty (I'm sure it is over 1 year since he bought it).
