by far the best option known around here is the Rumba board. I have one myself and do like it a lot
it is easy to set up and flash. plenty of other users here have it as well.

can be found here: http://www.makerfarm.com/
You will need to add stepper drivers (personal preferences are 4988's for the X, Y, & Z axis and an 8825 for the extruder), and I highly recommend you order the USB cable as well, unless you have a couple of mini USB cables laying around...

Hello,
I have a sd4 with an e3d v6. I recently made a post my sd4 not connecting to any computer, both Mac and PC. It stopped communicating while I had it connected and was preparing for a print.
I tried new usb cables, reflashing and still no communication.
I suspect my motherboard is the issue.
I tried contacting Solidoodle a couple weeks ago and have had no response. I was about to just buy a new motherboard from solidoodle and swap it out, but they are not in stock, and with the way Solidoodle has been operating lately I don't have much hope for them ever getting any.

That brings me to my question, what are my options? Replace the motherboard? Which board should I get. My only software experience was with the reflashing for the e3d, so I would need something that has been well documented to guide me thru the steps.
Thanks!
