Yep, so far so good. I will probably pick up an E3d even if it's just a backup just in case. But I can tell that the connector on top of the stepper motor on the extruder is going bad. Again. It is losing connection sometimes again. I really wish these cables were more built for bending back and forth.

I'm not sure how the new SD hotends perform after clogging. But in my experience, once my PEEK clogged, it was an uphill battle. Only after 5 clogs in one day did I finally listen to wardjr and grabbed an E3D.
I wish I listened to him sooner!

Point is, I would recommend grabbing one...at least as an emergency backup. The new SD hotend may hobble along for a couple days or could work like new again for years. But being prepared will save you from preventable downtime and less upset if/when it happens.
Either way, the good news is you are getting to know your machine better now, and you have it back up

Well good news, I was able to jog 50mm of filament without any clogs so the Acetone bath may have dissolved the clog. But I have a feeling that this won't be the last of this issue and that I may have to go for a E3d hotend anyways.

I'm not too worried about printing flexible filaments. I think I understand how he mounted the motor, just not quite the bearing system. Perhaps I could figure it out. Also, I just took the hotend out of the Acetone bath and replaced the heat core and set screw so now it's time to see if it is unclogged. *crosses fingers*

Bowden is possibly the easiest extruder system there is. The difficult part is where to mount the motor. MacGyver did a great job of making things look nice but that really isn't necessary. It all comes down to your expectations and what you need. You won't print flexible filaments with Bowden.

Yeah, I had some free time last night so I read the entire like 18 pages of that thread. The only issue I see is that the direct drive version cuts the available Z axis space by 68mm of travel (https://github.com/ymilord/Solidoodle-Press-E3D-v6) so I think the bowden configuration is the only option. I somewhat understand the direct drive mounting but not exactly the bowden, even after looking at the CAD drawings.
