Topic: Hot end dead? Please confirm...

So I think my hot end is dead, I've attached the log from Repetier.  The power drop off is me trying to reset.  From my searching I beleive my heater core is dead, not the thermistor because it wouldn't be such a smooth curve.  Does this seem correct to you guys?

If this is the case, what are my options other than wait until Solidoodle gets back from the holidays?  Can I change anything or fix anything myself here.  I've got some mechanical abilities but not any electrical abilities, especially for delicate work.

Do you have access to a multimeter?

You might want to consider this bad boy:

They ship next day, in my experience.

Only other thing you need is a power resistor, listed in accessories. Swapping them out takes maybe 15 minutes.

Yeah I have this one.

I'd prefer to stay with the solidoodle supported items if I had a choice.  Plus looks like that would require soldering to put the resistor on, right?

Wow - that is old school!

Test the heater for resistance. Disconnect the heater, set the meter on RX1k, and touch the pins to the heater connector. What's the reading?

It does require soldering... but it is soldering of the "a gorilla could do it" variety. I like it a lot better than the crusty ceramic heat core.

Thanks for the diagnosis.  So I just need to replace the item attached and that's it, right?

Is there anyplace else to buy this replacement part that might be open today?

Yup, that's all you need.

I don't think you'll get that heatercore with connector from anyone else.

Is this it from makergear?

I can't tell if that's the same connector solidoodle uses, but it could be!

I ordered one of the makergear and a couple from solidoodle to have them race to my house.  I don't see the heat core option from ultimachine.  I see you can buy the whole hot end kit but I don't need the whole thing.
