Topic: Xyz davinci 1.0 DOA

So I got a 0031 error and it's the y axis having trouble. I figured it out that it's the metal y axis rails the extruder casing runs on. The extruder casing gets stuck and feels hard to move on the y axis. I have to use force to move the printing head on the rail. This is with the belts being loosened all the way. I have no idea why it would sliding so badly on the rail. Even if I turn the motor up it will probably make a screeching sound trying to pull the printer head

Sounds like one of your rods is bent. The best thing to do is remove them and roll them on a flat surface. You will see the bent one right away. The only way to get new ones though unless under warranty would be to buy one of those damaged Da vinci's off eBay and hope it does not have the same issue.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

replacing a piece of rod should not be a problem. measure the diamter and length and buy a new one. you may need to get a longer piece and cut to length.
Any straight piece of ground rod the correct diameter should work.

A cheaper alternative would be drill rod less than $10 for a 3 ft piece.

FYI there are many vendors for such material MC is not the cheapest but good quality good selection and ships fast.

MSC and enco also are good industrial  supply houses.

The Da Vinci has snap rings that hold the rods into the frame. So just cutting a smooth rod is not enough. You would also need the grooves cut for the snap rings in the exact spot to keep them ridgid.

I figured it out 10 hours later. It was the copper cylinders - the large "left" plastic head that is on the other side of the printer head was not attached to the copper guides properly.
