Topic: New experiemntal materials

I just opened up a heavy box from 3D supply source, and inside was my main order along with a bunch of failed prints to grind up, and a few new materials to test out on my Filastruder. Thank you 3D Supply source! http://3dsupplysource.com/

Score!

If you build it they will come. Then they will make fun of it, tell you it's not worth doing and go home and try to copy you.
If a picture is worth a thousand words then being there is worth a thousand pictures.

Re: New experiemntal materials

They sent it to me under the pretense that I would test the materials and provide feedback, which I am happy to do. The ABS and PLA, was part of my main order. I just finished up testing the PP, and it warps like crazy when printed, but extrudes easily enough.

Is your printer enclosed? Heated?

No, but I have a reason. I made a plexi glass enclosure that was magnetic, but when I switched to Lawsy's carriages, I ordered new longer rods. I never ended up cutting them to size, so I have rods that stick out side of the frame. Once I print out some new carriage pieces I'll cut the rods and get my enclosure back on. For awhile I just wrapped my printer in tinfoil, and the ambient air temperature was nice and warm in the printer.

Ooohh. That nylon 6, I'm dying to see it get extruded and printed with.

Re: New experiemntal materials

are these materials going to be for sale after testing on the site? been wanting to try nylon. curious about the others,  just need to setup the ks filastruders i got from rob.
hate changing materials/purging.
also i highly recommend using hips, it warps less than abs, seems to be stiffer but not as much tensile strength, i use it for fill or dissolving supports. it def is lighter than abs so i've been thinking of printing rc plane parts with it.
really interested in how that nylon turns out, i've only used wacker string and that was crazy tough.

Strange, i have tried 6-8 diffrent types (round) and brands all between 1.4mm upto 3.1mm and have not had any troubles
with them but one brand.
Printed good with them all.

Or did you mean tough as difficult to break?

Re: New experiemntal materials

ya, i meant it was really strong, flex was great too. was really old so def had some moisture in it.

i've been wanting nylon pellets for a while just been too broke+can't find em w/o glass.

Re: New experiemntal materials

Yeah, don't try the glass ones.  Well, do, because they have one good use -- purging plastic when switching between types.  It requires too much heat and pressure and the filastruder can't seem to readily deliver one with the other.

Re: New experiemntal materials

I have everything in stock that Ggalisky pictured above, plus Acrylic.  The experimental materials aren't currently listed, but if you shoot me an email I can box some up for you.  I have some HIPS, PC, Clear ABS, and PA-747 (ABS), but only a few pounds left, however I plan on making another order after Christmas.  (Day job and Christmas shopping - I just don't think I can get it done before then.)

All the Nylon is unfilled.

I've also started repackaging the desiccant kits so the indicators don't turn pink by the time they get delivered.  Humidity's not much of an issue in West Texas, so that didn't occur to me.  They're rechargeable though, 175F in the oven for about an hour and they're good to go again.

@Ggalisky - did you get to try the fiberglass wrap I sent for your Filastruder?  Watch handling it too much, I got a splinter that I had to dig out using a microscope in our lab at work.

Re: New experiemntal materials

I will place an order soon, Just wondering how gp-35 is for melt flow, mg-94 has been giving me problems with overhangs/bridges even at 200c and i'm trying to get these raptor hands looking good. might try pa747 again, but don't like the smell
I'll def be getting some nylon and some other pellets/printer stuff.

Also hope to buy a L-cheapo if i have the cash, is the v2 in stock? i've got to big of a wish list for my wallet.

Re: New experiemntal materials

They're all listed on the site now.

@cor5151  I love the way GP35 prints, I haven't printed with MG94 in a while, but I've been printing a lot with my new filaments, which I believe are PA-747 (you're right about the smell!).  I do have stringing with them that I don't get with the GP35.  The biggest difference visually with the GP35 is that it's not shiny (which reminds me to try an acetone vapor treatment to see if it'll get shiny).

I am selling the v2 L-Cheapo now, but I don't stock them.  They're made as they're ordered by the inventor in California and he ships them separately.
