Topic: 3D Printing Club

Just thought you guys might be interested in hear about the 3D Printing club I am setting up at my high school. I have a few people helping me out, and we got the SD2 out there with some prints nearby. Thankfully most of the people that stopped by, or signed up knew what 3D printing is, which is exciting!

Love it - good job.  Is the school helping out in any way?  See if you can find a good teacher sponsor and maybe you can get the school to buy some other types and filament and maybe even a pro machine at some point.  To offset the cost tell them they can sell FDM models, I have bought parts from a college department before for work - they are competitive with the professional services.

The school bought a Makerbot replicator 5th gen a few months, which most of the time just works. One time the belt connector snapped, so I reverse engineered Makerbot's part and added thicker walls. I had my friend who has an up mini print it out in ABS (my printer was down for maintenance), and it works! The $500 printer repairing the $3000 one... Recently I printed out an electronics cover for the Filastruder, it took 7hrs, but it just worked. Unfortunately it only does PLA, and has very limited user control. Its perfect for other students or someone who has never used a 3D printer before. Also, the school recently purchase about 7kgs of filament, so there is really no limit to how much we can print. I also have a good club adviser who is an engineer, does PCB layout, and has a $35,000 Stratasys printer, and He hates the proprietary filament cartridges.

Most of it, yes, but some of it is PLA.
