Topic: Stopping and restarting extrusion

Is there a way to stop your extrusion and restart it without messing up the filament.  I have mine mounted vertically, and when I shut the machine down, the filament stretches out very thin and I have to consider that the end of my spool.

What do you do if you need to stop mid-spool and want to restart later on?

You can't, neither can industrial extruders. Polymer extrusion is a steady-state operation, and startup/shutdown is a transient.
