Topic: Vertical configuration extrusion speed question

I have my filastruder mounted vertically with Ian Johnsons vertical hopper. I sanded the inside of the hopper and have a question.
When I run the filastruder I get 8 inches per minute normally. If I put pellets into the auger from on top of the auger where it is exposed between the flanges I can get over 12 inches per minute.

Had a chance to look at the pictures.

I think it's due to the difference in pellet feed. When you're feeding behind the flange, you're using a smooth tube with no flat section. When you're feeding through the normal hopper, there's a flat section so the pellets don't feed as well. This one should work better:
