Topic: Starting research on a desktop CNC.

Any machinist recommend a nice desktop CNC?

My usage would entail Flight simulator Panels, Gun parts, General use,

Mostly wood, aluminum, acrylic and mild steel. Stainless if possible in my budget.

I would say my max budget would be around $3000, Cheaper the better but i don't want to sacrifice quality.

Size. 2x4 or 4x4 if there is something decent in that price range.

If not something smaller would work ok.

I am new to CNCs but have almost a year on my 3D printer. I have all of the basic knowledge to operate and tinker with one.

I would say I am confident enough to build a DIY model if that is the way to go.

I prefer Turnkey though.

Just got me a small one off ebay (3040) but you may find more info here www.cnczone.com
It's a pretty good CNC forum

The ones you linked to have timber frames. I'd question the rigidity in terms of machining metal.

Re: Starting research on a desktop CNC.

Here is a Desktop CNC machine that has been in production since their Kickstarter.  The full kit costs about $650.00 and includes EVERYTHING you need for a complete machine including the tools and electronics needed to build it.  I bought one of the Kickstarter machines and it works fine.  This is gen 2 machine much better.
