Topic: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

Here are a couple of new prints:  Kung-Fu Panda.

So far Panda (Po) and Tigress.  The characters were printed in two halves, then glued.  Tigress 's tail had to be printed separately, then glued on.   The models are still un-retouched, only the supports were cleaned off, then the halves were glued together.

As I'm posting this, Master Shifu is being printed, and then will be Monkey's turn.  I don't yet know if these will remain in natural ABS, or if they'll be painted.

Re: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

I'm also working on a Space Cruiser.  At the moment, it is incomplete.  I found the model as part of a set of 7 spaceships, and I plan to eventually print all of them, but the cruiser was the one that attracted me first.  Full credit goes to Dog Parry for these models.

The models are 3D Studio models, and unfortunately, they were never intended for printing.  As such they require A LOT of work to get them print worthy.  There are many intersecting parts, as well as single sided surfaces (no physical volume), which make the model impossible to print as is.

Running the basic NetFabb repair doesn't produce any useful results, so I ended up reconstructing many of the parts.  I also broke the model into about 60 parts, and it will be assembled like a model kit.

Here is what I have so far.

Re: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

Kung Fu Panda update.

Finished printing Master Sifu and Monkey.  Here is a group shot.  Since it was impossible to print Tigress's and Sifu's wiskers, I'm adding them manually.  I extruded some material in free air, and cut up a few short legths and glued them on the side of the snout (right side only so far).  It looks pretty good.

Re: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

Well, I haven't painted anything yet, but I've been printing a few odds and ends.

Here is a little pagoda style gazebo that will complete the Kung Fu Panda diorama.  I'm sure that I'll paint these one day, but I've no idea when that will be.

Re: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

Here are a couple of nice models.

The baby panda in particular was a pain in the a$$ to import.  It had in excess of 4 MILLION faces !  I had to import it into MeshLab and simplify it before I could open it in NetFabb studio to clean it.

The minions are simply cool  I wish I could find more of the same quality.  The spindly arms are so thin, that I could not print them as part of the model without them braking, or getting all mangled up, so I printed the arms separately, then glued them on.

Re: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

Something for the Wife.  She likes My Little Pony, and Hello Kitty stuff.  I made a few Hello Kitty, but didn't take any pics, but here is "Fluttershy" of My Little Pony.

BTW, I also found some cool My Little Pony models designed for Team Fortress (yes, with BIG guns big_smile), called Team Equestria.  Unfortunately the models are for use inside the game and I don't know how to convert them.  I'm still looking for extracted meshes.

Re: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

This is one of the more complex models I printed, a fishing cabin and dock.  It has many overhangs and undercuts, as well as many small parts like the chairs, and hanging lamps.  Unfortunately, the chairs and lamps didn't come through clean, so I'll print them separately.

The model was only roughly stripped of the support material, and needs a lot more cleaning.  I'll post new pictures when it's done.

Really nice stuff, Pirvan.  What software are you using to create your models (looks like zbrush, but I'm not sure).  Keep up the great work!

I didn't create any of these models.  I found them on various sites that have 3D models for download.

Most of these are either in 3D Studio Max (.3DS or.max), or Alias Wavefront (.obj).  I usually have to do a lot of cleanup  because they're not watertight or manifold, they have lots of holes and intersecting parts, but once you clean them up, Slic3r is pretty good at handling the few remaining errors.

My personal 3D modelling skills revolve around Solidworks and are primarily for mechanical devices, not so much organic modelling.

Re: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

Here is a nifty little model.  I'm not much into demons and such, but this one looked very cool.  And it was a good test for my newly fixed print head.

PS. The model didn't have a pedestal, so I made on e in SolidWorks.

Re: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

Here a few new models.  I printed these a little while ago, but forgot to post them, so here they are.  As you can tell, they're not finished, rather they had some basic cleanup and support removal.

The tall skinny guy (Han Solo)  needs to have the legs reprinted.  When I printed those parts I didn't have a fan running or a prime pillar, so the hot end lingered too long on the small parts and melted the material, creating those ripples.

The Satyr came out probably the best, after tweaking the support settings in Slic3r.  The buzzard and the little kid are pretty cool too.

Re: Some (More) New Prints... (my growing collection)

Here is my latest print: Bionic Robot.  I didn't attempt this before because it's an articulated model that uses ball joints, and I was having problems printing proper circles.

That changed last week when I came up with my tensioning device, so I finally got to print my articulated robot.  28 parts in all, fully posable.

I got the shack someplace b4. the Inn is bad in netfab, seems the 3 lights are not attached to anything, just floating in midair

Yeah, I know.  You should have seen all the errors it had to start with.  Anyway, the errors reference are a bunch of invalid orientations.  These are faces inside the model, and won't be a problem.

As far as the lamps are concerned, you can use NetFabb to extract them as separate parts and print them, then extrude a piece of filament to get a nice thin strand and use it to hang the lamps (or use string if you want them to dangle.)

The model slices fine with both Slic3r and Cura at .1mm and .3mm.  At the current scale and .1mm resolution, and depending on the amount of support you'll use, it will take about 60+ hours to print this model ! big_smile
