Topic: First Prints

So far here is what I have printed, all from Thingiverse...
1 - Filament bushing for Solidoodle
2 - Solidoodle door knob
3 - Church key bottle opener
4 - Standard bottle opener
5 - Mini Solidoodle model
6 - Horse key chain
7 - Unicorn key chain
8 - Darth Vader key chain
9 - Autobots key chain
10 - Vampire skull pez head
11 - Makerblot wind-up walking robot

All using basically the default settings and the standard software. Some with minor tweaks in Skeinforge such as support and fill density. Extruder temp = 195, bed temp = 100. Have tried about 4 different abs filament colors and even tried a PLA print for the Autobots keychain with just reducing the extruder and bed temp and the rest the default settings. It came out pretty good.

My favorite print so far was the vampire skull in glow in the dark filament.

They make great gifts.
So far the only key chain type prints I have kept for myself are the bottle openers.  lol

I am very happy that the default settings print nice right out of the box.

Re: First Prints

haha, nice man. The Darth Vader key chain is pretty sweet. The android walker came out pretty well too. Did you sand that one?

Nope, no sanding or acetoning done to the Android wind-up at all. All I had to do was trim some small errant threads and slag by the antennae and inside the body.

Here's another of a buddha I just did...

Re: First Prints

Nice prints!

Does your "glow in the dark" work?
Mine has a very little "glow" before printing with it, then its just a pale blue like yours.
Does your skull glow ? smile

Re: First Prints

Thanks. Yes it does glow. Do have to hold it next to an incandescent bulb for at least 1 minute for the best affect. Does not glow quite as much as a factory glow in the dark object but that may be due to the chemical properties of the abs. I do like the color and print characteristics of this abs. Got it from Octavia on ebay.

Re: First Prints

Do you think it might be possible that when it is heated it degrades some of the glow in the dark material?

Re: First Prints

I suppose melting the abs may change it's glow properties though I do not see that much a difference between the glow of the abs on the spool and the glow of a printed object with the abs that I have.

Very nice! How long did it take to make this?

Former Solidoodle employee, no longer associated with the company.

Re: First Prints

it quoted 55 minutes to print, I did not look to see how long it really took.

I played with a lot of software, I _think_ this was google sketchup, moved onto openscad at the moment.
