Topic: Is the motherboard also the power supply for the heater?

I am working on building a new extruder that uses thermocouples instead of a thermistor, so I need to know this so I can hook everything up correctly.

no, the power supply is the power supply for the extruder.

If you mean does the extruder have a mosfet to switch its power on and off on the motherboard - yes.
