Topic: Retract on layer change

I have a DaVinci 1.0 AiO printer with Repetier FW.  I'm using the Repetier Host software on a mac and I am having a hard getting my settings correct in Slic3r.  I believe it's the retract option that's giving me an undesirable print.

The issue is always in the back left/right corners of the 10mm X 10mm cube.

Re: Retract on layer change

In my opinion, this looks more like overheating than extrusion issues. The ambient air at back of the build plate is typically hotter than the front, which aligns with your issue.

Re: Retract on layer change

You need to print a layer fan, or print two or more of those at one time. They are staying too hot in that area as jej said.  You could test this by leaving the door open and allowing a fan to blow into the machine while trying a reprint.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Thanks for the help guys.  I will run some test today and report back my results.

Re: Retract on layer change

Ok, I moved the part to the front of the printer, removed side handle covers, and opened the door.  Print looks better, but still something weird is going on with the left corner of the print in this photo.  Still heat issue?

I literally just switch from the stock firmware to the repeteir firmware. I never had this issue with the stock firmware, why now after switching?

Re: Retract on layer change

Perhaps repetier is setting your hot end to a higher temp than XYZ, or not running the hot end fan at 100%?

I agree with carl that you should print a layer fan. It solved many similar issues for me.

After you installed Repetier, did you run and Auto PID? If not the default values that Repetier had may be making your hotend run hotter than reported..

Re: Retract on layer change

I have not ran the auto PID.  Looking into that now.

Re: Retract on layer change

Thanks.  I'm looking into how I can save to the printer EEPROM.  Everything seems to be for the Marlin FW.

Re: Retract on layer change

Okay... Error:PID Autotune failed! timeout

Now what?

Re: Retract on layer change

Repetier should allow it as well. Try this page. It covers most flavors of firmware and the commands are different.

thanks. I am waiting for the extruder to cool down and will run it again.
