Topic: 123d Design

Good day.  Is there perhaps someone that could assist me with a design in 123d Design please.  I want to make an gear like lock system between 2 surfaces where the 2 surfaces can be set at different angles.

i might be able to help, but having a hard time visualizing what you mean.

would you have a simple sketch (hand drawn) of what you are trying to achieve? Does not need to be real detailed, just a general idea of what you are after

Hi Heartless.  Thank you for the reply.  Attached is a image of the item I would like to draw. http://soliforum.com/i/?kwynr8b.png

Re: 123d Design

that is going to be mostly cylinder work.. main shape, inner raised bit, and one to cut the hole in the center.

use the circular patterning tool with a small wedge to make the gear teeth.. you are going to need to have a good idea of how many teeth you need for this step.

dont forget to merge everything together once you have it laid out the way you want it.. then export as stl

Re: 123d Design

Those teeth would need more like a pyramid on its side as the are smaller in the inner diameter than the outer diameter. A wedge unless allowed to vary in 123 is consistent in all width and height.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: 123d Design

it can be adjusted before doing the circular pattern bit.. i just threw out the basics.

123d is probably not ideal for gear making, but it can be done

Thank you for all the replies.  Would Fusion 360 be a better program to use?

Re: 123d Design

possibly? I have no experience with Fusion 360, so can not say one way or the other.

If you want to draw a 3D model yourself - that's understandable. But sometimes it is better to find a ready-made 3D model like yours or exactly the same one on the web. Like this one. Look on Thingverse or GrabCAD sites.
