Topic: Broken 10mm rod clamp

While removing the Y rods on my Workbench today, I discovered that one of my mounting collars is broken.  I've googled extensively, and cannot find a replacement.  Any leads from the 'brain trust' would be helpful.

Re: Broken 10mm rod clamp

You most likely will need to take the broken one to a machine shop and have them replicate it. The screw part can be reused on the new one. Have them make it from steel versus cast iron. The workbenches where somewhat limited in their numbers so parts are hard to come by.

You could also just have one printed. It does not need to be all that strong. It appears this one was over tightened in the first place.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

search for RC plane collars. I found them a couple years ago and bought several in each size that my printer requires.

Ah-Ha!  Look what I found:

It looks and measures right.  I've ordered a couple of extras.  We'll see how they are when they arrive.

Those would work great on my SD4...mine still has the hose clamps.  My workbench needs those three tapped holes.

Re: Broken 10mm rod clamp

The Misumi replacement collars worked great.  The originals were tapped for 4mm screws, whereas the replacements are tapped for 5mm.  I found some 5mm button-head screws at the local Ace Hardware, so not a big deal.

The original broken collar appeared to be made of aluminum, or possibly even babbit; the Misumi ones are actual steel, and are quite a bit heavier.

Now my project of installing the new printed carriage can proceed!
