Topic: Filament spilled everywhere and burnt?

Hi, on my last print on the da vinci mini, I had a really bad surprise.http://soliforum.com/i/?Ka4OMHB.jpg
I found a pile of filament spilled over the bed, and even parts of it were stained with black. I also found some brownish leaks that looked like ear wax on the filament..http://soliforum.com/i/?8ToS8nq.jpg
I recently cleaned the nozzle because one of my last prints ended up in a big ball of plastic. I know it must be some sort of maintenance issue but I cant tell what i should do. I never took out the nozzle to clean it, Im having trouble fimdimg good tutorials. I only did the clean nozzle on the xyz software using the metal cleaning wire inserted in the nozzle http://soliforum.com/i/?GtNdZCp.jpg

Many potential cause, you should monitor the early printing process to identify the issue. I think your hotend is not clogged, which is a good thing. But I will guess the filament feeding is problematic, so pay attention to your filament spool. If filament spool stuck and struggled a long time to overcome, a few layer was printing without filament, then even when filament feeding came back, the rest printing can not attach to the bottom and will print in air while squeezing lots of noddles.

Re: Filament spilled everywhere and burnt?

on my XYZ such issues have been caused by two things, one is that the object comes unstuck from the bed, and either sticks to the hot end and trails around the print causing issues, or just isnt there to be printed to, causing a straggle of filament to be extruded randomly, the second cause is that you are obviously not in close attendance to the printer while printing,as this shows quite a large amount of extrusion after a printing fault has occurred. I try and visit a long print at a maximum of 30 minute intervals, just in case something goes wrong, you can then cancel the print and start again without wasting too much filament. the brown lumps show that the filament has got overly hot, and there has been a risk of a fire.
the other way i watch a print is to place a webcam in the case and monitor it from another room.
