Topic: Threads- need help please

I am trying to learn Autodesk Fusion 360.
I want to  designing a humming bird feeder that uses A wide mouth mason Jar.
I find the Min and max thread diameter but can not find out how many threads per inch they are.
does anyone know what the standard thread is on a wide mouth mason jar.

Thanks
Dale

Re: Threads- need help please

I do not but couldn’t you simply measure then calculate it out?
Thread to thread on the jar.

Thanks wardjr
I have to go buy one later today and do that.
I'm a Machinest by trade and do not have a handbook handy (its at work)
the handbook probably gives the number of threads per inch. Just my luck.

Thanks

Re: Threads- need help please

Can't you use a caliper to measure the the distance between the thread peaks?

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...

Re: Threads- need help please

Well, I couldn't leave this one alone, and got a bit deeper into it.  Here is some information and web sites I found:

Mason Jars have changed over the years, and they exist in a variety of sizes.  Here are some web sites that have information on jars and bottles and the type of closures they use:
https://sha.org/bottle/closures.htm#Masons%20Patent
https://www.revolvy.com/main/index.php? … p;uid=1575

I also found this bit of information on a query regarding Mason Jar lids:
"Standard jar threads are 5, 6, 8, and 12 threads per inch. The different threads are not geometrically similar. You probably are looking at the standard narrow mouth canning jar. It is 5tpi.
The height of the 5 tpi thread is 0.060". The radius of the thread top is 0.044". The radius of the base corner roots is 0.030" max. The sides of the threads are thirty degrees from vertical."

It also turns out that a mason jar can fit on a blender (same thread pitch I assume), so maybe you can find more details on that from the blender manufacturer specs:

Re: Threads- need help please

I actually like the soda bottle/water bottle idea better. Cheaper and less likely to break...
