Topic: Milwaukee MakerFaire 2017

Myself, heartless, and kronikabuse had a BLAST last year, so if anyone else can make it, look for the Printit booth or Kronik3D booths.
Printit will be demoing the new Horizon H1 printer as well as another machine to be announced formally in the near future, so we hope you can come hang out and see why I've been waiting for this weekend since last year's MakerFaire!

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Re: Milwaukee MakerFaire 2017

One would think that Kansas City or St. Louis would have the wherewithal to host a large maker's fair, but I'm not aware of any.  You guys are making me jealous.

You can sign up now they are currently looking for makers to exhibit.

A little google foo and we find KC does have a makers fare .

It is held the  end of June  Kansas City (MO) at union station.

Re: Milwaukee MakerFaire 2017

It must not be well-publicized...I was at Union Station in June.

I'll have to add it to my calendar!

Thanks.

Re: Milwaukee MakerFaire 2017

similar problem with  our local maker space. People all the time say they did not know it exists .
Very  strange attitudes from the people running or attempting to run the place. At least they were passing out flyers for the NYC fare.

Had a blast, and talked myself hoarse - no voice left sunday night and most of monday. it is starting to come back now, but sheesh...

Still sorting through all the pictures I took early Sunday morning - took a walk around the venue to peek at the other exhibits... SO much to see!

Re: Milwaukee MakerFaire 2017

Is it mostly vendors or individuals that exhibit?

it is both. Vendors promoting products, and individuals promoting their crafts/projects. It is a mish-mash of all sorts of different things, from welding and woodworking, to fiber arts and 3d printing, and everything in between. Electronics, robotics, costume making, model building, the list goes on. There are also other organizations, such as schools, promoting non-traditional classes and/or training.

Re: Milwaukee MakerFaire 2017

So, no crazy stories of wild parties and maker-groupies?

Seriously though, what were your significant takeaways from the event?  Anything newsworthy?

Yes there were!
Crazy story- they had a knight in a suit of armor fight a Tesla coil, a couple illegally parked cars (owned by exhibitors) were hit by trucks, heartless, Kronik abuse and myself got to taste liquid nitrogen ice cream, and a school PT teacher came in frantic looking for a booth making prosthetic hands, but there wasn't one. She needed one for a student she has that is missing 2/3 of her forearm and she wanted to get a printed prosthetic, I introduced her to Kronikabuse and I also offered to work pro-bono if needed.

Also one printer company to be left unnamed by me, was trying to get other printer companies to sell his product instead of theirs. What a dishonest shmuck.
There were only about 4 3DP companies and the rest were hobbyists, services, and makerspaces, but certainly more than double the printers from last year.

If you're a vendor at a maker fair, I get it.  If you're an individual...what's the purpose?
