Topic: Trying to change spools mid print

I got my spool of white today to go along with my original spool of black.  I tried an experiment twice using a simple model I whipped together with a 1x2" base .075" thick, and the word TEST on top of it.  I was watching the printer preview pane and paused the print at the moment it transitions from the base to the words, the problem I was having was that no matter how much I pre extruded I couldn't get the filament flowing again when the print resumed until about the 3rd layer above, which obviously didn't work.  I think it's worth experimenting with becuase I think there could be some interesting things you could do with two colors.  I tried to attach the stl hopefully it worked and maybe someone else can give it a whirl.

Re: Trying to change spools mid print

I am able to extrude in two colors by switching as you suggested. I printed a can holder on mine as well as a nameplate for my wife using the method you described. I took a picture of the can holder as it was printing (see attached). For some reason, I am unable to add a picture to my post with the exception of adding the file to my post.

Re: Trying to change spools mid print

BTW, I did not lower my platform when I changed my filament. I reversed the extruder to back out the previous color, then put the new filament in, pressed the extruder button three times to move the filament to the approximate location of the previous filament, then pressed the resume button. I figured that the color change might look cool as the color switched from purple to white. However, there was no gradient change that was visible as evidenced by the picture. The same held true with the nameplate. The color change happened at at the lowest level an the location of the switch was invisible to the naked eye.

Re: Trying to change spools mid print

Yeah I don't know why I had trouble, I was extruding until the color changed since I didn't have many mm of feed left after the switch I wanted an immediate color switch.  I just couldn't get it to feed after the change right away, and by the time it started flowing again it was too high in Z so it didn't contact the previous layer.

Change the URL part of the img tags from
action=pun_attachment&item=60&preview&secure_str=46t166

to:

action=pun_attachment&item=60&download=0

so it should look like this
{img}http://www.soliforum.com/misc.php?action=pun_attachment&item=60&download=0{/img}
of course change the curly brackets to square brackets

Really annoying I know... again I can state that I think images through this forum software are overly complicated.
