sorry my camera isn't really designed for macro photos its just a simple point and shoot.
I did try and dry brush the  orange ranger from the d7 and then photo both together.

I only lightly hit the others with the primer since I was air brushing some other things at the time and I had some primer left over in the cup. not enough to pour back really but enough to lightly hit the two models. the one on  the d7 wasn't done printing yet, however cleaning a air brush is kind of a pain so I don't really want to put some primer in it and then lightly paint it and then have to spend 10 min cleaning it for just that model.

Re: Saffire SLA printer

I'm not saying the d7 is bad in fact I like the d7 it certainly has its advantages. also for how cheap it is it is a good printer.

as far as printers go I will most likely even still be buying a form 2 or may be if they come out with a new one that one.

I have to say I really love the details you get from sla printers and the fomlabs printers I think cut down on knowing how to set up the printer as they do it all in the software for you behind the scene, and  that makes it a lot less hassle.

Re: Saffire SLA printer

Mark,

Quick question. Do you know what version your D7 is? Mine is a 1.4. I waited several days to delay my order so I could get the 1.4. It now has an internsl power supply and larger fans. Also has a solid Aluminum cover now instead of the dark see through plastic.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Saffire SLA printer

Mine was a 1.2 they never had a see through plastic cover it was planed so marking materials show that but never materialized.
I did get the side fan so its now a 1.3.

I should have waited as well but.... well I didn't.

the 1.4 also comes with a flex coupler on the z axis which will reduce z wobble that mine has been suffering from. however I just got my flex couplers from amazon and installed them so I am hoping that helps fix that. unfortunately my fep sheet seems to be having issues. so I am busy replacing it with the spare the gave.  the one it shipped in arrived in poor condition had marks on it dings and scratches but I used it any way. however it has started getting to the point that its failing a lot on prints in specific spots and those where the spots that looked bad to begin with.

I honestly suspect that the "store" I purchased it on amazon was selling a "beta" unit at the full retail price but it was packaged like the retail one so.... not sure. it could also be that the fep was just damaged in shipping.

I have also ordered some spare higher quality fep sheets from fepshop.com that are supposed to be more optically clear. but they wont be here for a while.

Hope you enjoy your d7 have you got it yet?

Re: Saffire SLA printer

It was supposed to arrive tomorrow but tracking shows it just departed China and they are recalculating the delivery date so probably Friday now. I bought mine straight frm the Wanhao factory. They even sent pics of the unit before and after packaging with the production number on flip chart next to it and the box. Looks like a mug shot.

Privan,

That file has lots of errors on it. I am surprised it printed using preform. slicer wont slice it properly, neither did cura or simplify 3d. I ran it with through net fab and it would not repair it nor would mesh mixer.

Meshmixer nor Simplify3D will open either.

no sanding on either one.
just primer then a thin coat of paint to try and preserve as much detail as possible (and I'm not a great painter)

Sorry about this, I guess I never paid attention to the errors, as it opens up in Preform without issues.  I also was able to open it in Meshmixer without problems, but I could see it had some non-manifold edges, so I fixed it.

Here it is again.

Re: Saffire SLA printer

So this mixture of fun to do and grey from form labs doesn't like to fully cure.
even after all night in the cure box it is still sticky.

oh well lesson learned don't mix those two types.

Re: Saffire SLA printer

I have tried the coral cuffs from thingiverse on fdm and I never thought they came out looking all that great. so I did it in sla and they come out really nice. the white one was printed on the wanhao d7 and the funky almost olive green (its unpigmented fun to do mixed with grey form labs) is from the saffire.
