today at the local hardware store picked up a tube of this

Seems like the red has a 20% higher heat rating  600f instead of 500 so better around hot ends but this should work just fine for holding wires on the heat bed and insulating bare connectors.

They make one for the automotive industry that is good to 800F but it has copper in it so it would only be good for things like taking a silicone heater to a bed or something similar.
