Topic: DaVinci JR acrylic printbed

Hi all.
New here but not to 3d printing, I've got a printrbot simple original wood which I completely rebuilt with printed part from itself and built a kossel mini again from printed part.
I got this printer for 2 reasons I wanted to try a factory built ready to go printer and where I work I got a great deal on it. I've got to say I'm actually pretty impressed with it, it definetly does not come out the box ready to go but after a good calibration its a good base.
Anyway i thought Id post a tip that might help those having trouble with print bed sticking, or not as the case maybe. What you wanna do is get a sheet of 5mm acrylic 165x165mm, from eBay its less than a tenner. Lightly sand one side and use this as a replacement for the glass plate. You might need to shave down one side if it doesn't quite fit on the base, you can sort of see in the pics, and I'd recommend getting some m3x10mm headed bolts, see other pic, which makes it easy to remove the bed after printing as yanking at the prints will seriously through the printer out of calibration. These can be just finger tight in each corner, ive not had any bed wobble yet even on 7hr prints. Youll need to offset the z axis quite a lot i think mine is set at 2.45 atm, to account for the thicker bed.
Hope this helps. There's also a pic of a Mew I printed

WOW! That Mew looks really good. Was that printed off the Jr? I only ask the obvious because I don't think I've seen a print that good from the Jr. yet. Mine have been really good lately but that looks excellent. What were your settings and do you think it was the bed that had an effect on the quality?

Re: DaVinci JR acrylic printbed

Yeah this was printed on the Jr. Settings- 0.2mm layer height, standard wall thickness which is 2 perimeters, 5% infill. The better adhesion from the better bed definetly helps, any curling from the bed will usually ruin the first cm or so of a print, but I'd say its also down to a good calibration. Like I said as well taking the bed out to remove the print is important for repeatable success as yanking at a print really isn't good for the printer/calibration.
It would be cool if/when someone cracks this printer for use outside of the software, I don't mind it that much it seems to do an ok job and I knew it was limited when getting this printer, but using cura I think I could get even better prints with it.
