Hi all !
here is my multicopters:

Oktokopter : https://vimeo.com/6190067
Dodekakopter: https://vimeo.com/19091547

I also have a Quadrikopter ,a Hexakopter from mikrokopter and a DJI f550

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

I don't think you have an obsession with flying things. I think your obsession is with propellers. Very nice!

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

Very Nice!!! What flight controller are you using for the Dodekakopter? smile

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

the motherboard for the Dodekakopter comes from Mikrokopter(the motors and brushless controlers too), It was the first one in France(when I build it , now as far as I know there is 3 or 4 dodeka in France).
For information it can take off with 9 Kg of charge, i'm still stupefying when I see it fly !  wink

I must admit it : there is a lot of propellers on those flying things !!!!   smile

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

I just bought a hubsan micro and i'm trying not to get pulled in! So much fun

You may as well give up now wink once you start there is no going back... I now have 5 quadcopters, 3 tri's, 2 hexa's, and am planning on a dodekokpter now that I saw Mcbrides19's smile I will have to skip the octocopter for now because of money reasons...

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

@Staffordknot:
As ronsii said ,be carefull with multicopters when you got one , you want another one it's terrible smile

@ronsii:
if you want to build a dodecacopter you better choose to build it this way :

instead of what I made, mine scale  is 1,07 meters , it's really hard to put it in the car when i want to go flying somewhere ! wink

So just have someone else drive and you can fly the helicopter alongside until you reach your destination!

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

LOL
Hummmm ... good idea !  but... well I don't know how is it in USA but in France it would be difficult to do this on the road without having problems with the police ! neutral
The law about drones became more strict during the year 2012. sad
We have a lot of restrictions for ours multicopters...

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

What would be a good cheap "My First Quad" to request for Christmas?  Is there anything in the $100 range that you would consider respectable and not a junky toy? Kits are fine too.

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

Ian,

I'm fairly new to quadcopters, but I have a Syma X1 and it is a pretty good beginners quad.  The price hovers around $30-35 on amazon, but I've seen it go as low as $26.  It's still in the "toy" range of quadcopters and not nearly near the hobby grade, but it is a good way to get acclimated to flying one and it is nearly indestructible in my experience.

My brother bought a MQX quad before I got mine, and it retails for around $150.  It flies a little different, but it's almost exactly the same size as the Syma.  I honestly prefer my Syma, but it is another option.

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

I would highly recommend one of these, I got one a few months back:

It is the little brother of the mQx Boz posted. $100 with controller included. Flies beautifully out of the box with low and low rates, as well as a self stabilising mode (which can be turned off if you are adventurous).

Equivalent replacement batteries are only $5, so I have six to keep it in the air for a long time.

Best part for me is that I've found replacement parts for cheap. eg. motors and props from crazyflie are compatible and half the price of the blade factory replacements.

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

Brad,

In your original post, your second picture, i can see the rotors, but there are two additional arms sticking out to the side with bits on the ends.... What are these?

43

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

That is the same as the first pic... only with the landing gear retracted out of the cameras view.

44

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

Oh wow... I see it now! If i wasn't so pre occupied with building something at the moment i would be very tempted! I'm waiting for man sized ones!

45

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

I went into the hobby RC multicopter because of a pocket quad hubsan H107D FPV that I got from christmas...

Then I bought a full size quadcopter 450 that I modified with an aluminium custom plates set, and very soon after a FPVDM Tricopter, which is since then totaly rebuilt.

I'm flying with multiwii crius, Open pilot CC (probably my favorite) and a KK2.1 board for my test frames.

All of them now have 3D printed parts !! I even printed a famous quad that you can find on thingiverse, it's the SPYDA 500.

I basically got the 3D printer as an investment to keep my hobby expenses low, and as well not waiting like 3 weeks to get the stuff from china !!

I'll post some pirctures on here when I'll be home. But yes, those things are very addictive !!

I'm very happy to see some very serious flyers on soliforum !! I'm an amateur when I see you guys machines!!

SD3, early 2013. Silicon 200W 8x8 heater bed, lawsy carriage on 8 mm hardened chrome shafts, E3D V6 and lawsy MK5 extruder, ATX 350 W PSU, Custom build plywood enclosure, azteeg x5 mini smothie firmware, with vikki 2 screen, fishing line conversion and pulley conversion, M5 Z rod. Calling it Gran'ma, going strong ! <3

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

One of the reasons I initially bought my SD3 was to make parts for my other obsession which is multirotors. I have somewhere around 18 of them now ranging in size from it fits in the palm of my hand to a Cinestar 6 carrying a Sony Nex 5n on a brushless gimbal, the palm sized Proto is barely larger than the motor mount pad on the Cinestar!

It wasn't until earlier this year that I realized the goal of designing, building, and flying a multi made entirely from 3D printed parts made on the SD3, this is what version 1 looked like...

http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/ab71/NeanderthalRC/MultiRotor/IMG_3033_zpsdb304054.jpg

Since then the alloy tube arms have been replaced with carbon fiber and many of the pieces have been refined so it now looks more like a commercially available frame than the prototype did.

Prior to that my first complete 3D frame was a copy of one I had bought, done mainly to see if it was practical to make and if it could hold up as well as a frame made from other materials...

http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/ab71/NeanderthalRC/MultiRotor/IMG_2910a_zps74757af0.jpg

Both of these are setup primarily for FPV and I use them regularly. I fly mainly at an AMA club field that is RC Heli only and multirotor friendly, it helps that the club VP is the owner of the LHS and also into multis as well as I'm on the club steering committee.

Lately I've been getting a lot of side work from a couple companies doing multirotor design and build for commercial applications, they like the fact that I know the multirotor side of things along with having the 3D design and print capability. It has actually now gotten close to being a second full time job and I've made enough $ to finance buying 2 new printers to keep up with the demand!

Won't be quitting my day job anytime soon but it's nice to have some extra $ coming in to finance my addictions wink

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

I figure I'll add my 2 cents in here.  I too like RC stuff, but my interests lie in actual helis, rather than quad copters & cars.

I have a T-Rex 450 in standard (Pod & Boom) trim, as well as a couple of clones in dress trim (Augusta 109 and Bell MD500D), a couple of T-Rex 250's (1 Pod & Boom, the other in a Airwolf fuselage), a couple of Gaui 200 Flybarless, and a Gaui 550 (all of them in Pod & Boom config).

As for ground vehicles, I have a few 10th scale road cars (Yokomo, HPI, X-Ray), and a drifter (HPI).

A while ago, I got really heavily into the Kyosho Mini-Z thing, and I think I have about 6-7 running Mini-Z (F-1, AWD, 2WD), as well as over 50 collectable Mini-Z bodies.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...
SD3 printer w/too many mods,  Printrbot Simple Maker Ed.,  FormLabs Form 1+
AnyCubic Photon, Shining 3D EinScan-S & Atlas 3D scanners...
...and too much time on my hands.

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

The setup in the picture has a separate camera operator.
If you want to do anything seriously you will need a separate camera operator,
its just too difficult to get the right shot trying to control everything yourself.

Re: RC Planes/Helicopters/Cars/Multicopters anyone?

I have a Parrot ver. 1 AR Drone for sale if anyone cares?  $200 (shipping not included).  PM me here and who knows?

I am an open book, write on my pages that I may learn the wisdom that you posses.
